 How do my ears work?   Diagram of the structure and function of the ears.   #1: Your outer ear collects sound waves and funnels them to your ear drum. #2: These sound waves make your ear drum vibrate. #3: The three bones of your middle ear (the hammer, the anvil and the stirrup) transmit and amplify the vibrations to the oval window of the inner ear. #4: Fluid in your inner ear stimulates special nerve endings called hair cells. #5:These hair cells send electrical impulses along the auditory nerve to the brain.   We invest a lot 'connecting' digitally, let us not forget what it feels like to connect face to face. One of the easiest ways to do this is to practice listening.
